8 Major Moments in The Beachwaver Co. History

This January, The Beachwaver Co. turns eight years old! To celebrate, we’re looking back at eight of the most pivotal moments that made the Beachwaver one of the most successful beauty brands in the world. Check ‘em out below!

2012: The Idea for the Beachwaver is Born

While on the phone with a beauty editor explaining how to get perfect, beachy waves, celeb stylist Sarah Potempa had an idea. What if she created a curling iron that would allow anyone—no matter their experience with hair—to be able to curl their hair like a celebrity stylist? She raced for a notepad and sketched her idea, and the rest is history!

2013: The Beachwaver Wins Allure’s Best of Beauty

…and InStyle’s Best Beauty Buy, and Good Housekeeping’s VIP Award. 2013 was the year beauty editors everywhere began to take notice and recognized the Beachwaver as an innovative product in a league all its own. The Beachwaver racked up tons of press and awards—a sign of what was yet to come!

2014: The Beachwaver Family Grows!

Our family got a little bigger when we launched the Beachwaver S1—a new version of the Beachwaver with a Home button and left/right arrow buttons for rotation control. Which Beachwaver model is your fave?!

2015 & 2016: The Beachwaver Co. Becomes the Official Tool of the VS Fashion Show

We got our wings in 2015 when we became the official hair tool of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Our team flew to New York in 2015 (and then Paris in 2016!) to give the Angels their now-iconic waves—helping to kick off the trend of voluminous, beachy waves that everyone wanted to emulate!

2016: The Beachwaver is Granted a Utility Patent

If you’re not familiar with utility patents, they’re essentially proof of an innovative advancement over prior technology. Utility patents are a BIG deal. The patent office is notoriously tough, and it can take years for them to examine an application (four years in our case!). But in 2016, we finally received the official patent—and it was well worth the wait!

2017: The Beachwaver Co. Lands in Australia and Mexico

Our expansion to Mexico and Australia was only the beginning of our global domination (muahaha!) We also debuted the Coast Pro® Ceramic and Titanium styling irons in 2017—which became instant cult classics.

2018: The Beachwaver Co. Sponsors WSL’s Women’s Championship Tour

We found the perfect wave (literally) with the World Surf League when we sponsored the first-ever Beachwaver Maui Pro. Highlights included: Carissa Moore taking home the gold with a perfect, 10-point ride; Stephanie Gilmore becoming a seven-time world champ and being surrounded by so many incredible female athletes during the announcement that WSL would support equal pay for male and female surfers!

2019: The Beachwaver Co. Launches Sustainable Hair Care

And not just any hair care. Our founders understand the importance of clean beauty—which is why we spent years making sure each product would be free of parabens, formaldehyde, sulfates, petrolatum, benzophenone, and phthalates. We also took a stand against animal cruelty—each hair care product is vegan and responsibly made without the use of any animal-derived ingredients or animal by-products. And when it came time to source bottles for our collection, we made sustainability our number one priority—using plastic bottles made from sugarcane biopolymers instead of fossil fuel. They’re also fully recyclable at the curb.
