Making Waves on Campus with EMILY

My name is Emily Wilson. I am a sophomore journalism major at the University of Missouri with a minor in Textile and Apparel Management.

What is/are your favorite Beachwaver product(s)?

My holy grail Beachwaver products are the Pro Dry and the Moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. These were products I never knew about until I joined Campus Wave, but can’t picture my hair routine without them now. My jaw dropped the first time I used these products.

What is your favorite part of being a member of Beachwaver’s Campus Wave?

This was the highlight of my freshman year and it’s been so fun to get back into the swing of things this semester by creating content for my favorite hair brand! I love getting to help as well as learn new ways of creating from other girls in the program!

What do you expect to be doing 10 years from now?

I hope that I am freelancing. I do work currently in content creation, creative videography, social media, graphic design, and marketing. With so many passions, I would be most happy getting to do all of them and working with brands who I not only love their products but also who they are as a company. My experience with Beachwaver opened the door for so many other opportunities to work with brands I love and I hope I get to keep doing this as long as I can.

What is an obstacle you’ve faced, and how did you get through?

Last semester, I really struggled with putting too much value in what I was achieving and finding my worth in that. I realized what a slippery slope that was, as it is temporary and continuous. It was so exhausting placing my value in that. I really took a step back to think about where my value comes from and take time to focus on bettering my mental health. I really dove into my faith and pursued that to find my purpose, which is so much more than the daily things I am achieving! It has been such a valuable lesson for me and a freeing knowledge to get to live out every day now!

What is your life motto?

Step into every moment being present, kind, and empathetic.

How do you define success?

Success in my eyes is doing something that creates positive significance. Success is so often talked about in the form of achievements, but I have been learning in the last year that your achievements are only as important as they are meaningful. It would be better to fail than succeed at something insignificant.

What’s the craziest hair trend you ever rocked?

I cheered competitively for 10 years and I still cannot believe how big my hair looks in the photos from that time. Bumps and high ponytails teased to the SKY. It was a good time but not something I would be able to rock now.

Anything else you’d like included?

I am so grateful for everything I have learned from this program and the impact it has had on my life. Beachwaver means so much more to me than a reliable curling iron. This is a company I have used for years and years before this program and I often have to remind myself what a blessing it is to work with the Beachwaver!
