Making Waves on Campus with Skyler Brooke Villanueva
Last fall, The Beachwaver Co. launched our new college ambassador program, the Campus Wave! Each month, campus reps get a box full of Beachwaver goodies to help spread the word about The Beachwaver Co. on their campuses!
Below, meet Skyler Brooke Villanueva who is studying at University of California, Irvine (Zot Zot Zot!)
What is/are your favorite Beachwaver product(s)?
The Beachwaver S1 is my favorite curling iron! While I also love the S.75 and the S1.25, the S1 is the perfect size for my medium length, thick hair. The Braid Balm is my favorite for turning my braids to waves and taming frizz. The Velvet Scrunchies are my favorite Beachwaver accessories, and I love color-coordinating with my outfits!
What is your favorite part of being a member of Beachwaver’s Campus Wave?
Being an on-campus rep has allowed me to meet so many new people. It is so much fun helping people pick out products and educating them on how to use the products as well.
What do you expect to be doing 10 years from now?
After graduating with a B.S. in Biological Sciences, I plan to go to Medical School. In 10 years, I will be a dermatologist and will hopefully have my own practice and skincare line.
What is an obstacle you’ve faced, and how did you get through?
Being a minority woman in a STEM major has brought so many challenges in itself. Believe it or not, people have constantly told me that I should think about choosing a different path. I never let myself listen to the negativity, and it is so rewarding proving them wrong.
What is your life motto?
“Everything happens for a reason.”
How do you define success?
To me, success comes from accomplishing one’s individual goals. It is so important to me to be driven and have something in life that I want to accomplish. No matter what your goal is, pursuing that goal is the best success you can have.
What’s the craziest hair trend you ever rocked?
I had bright pink hair for the longest time! It was probably the best decision I ever made. I was younger, but it gave me so much confidence and allowed me to show my true personality. I think about dying my hair pink again all the time!
